A Basic Cleaning List For Your House

Posted on 20. Sep, 2009 by Mark Coleman in Cleaning

House cleaning usually is actually preventative maintenance when scheduled properly and the schedule followed. Setting up a house cleaning list gives you an idea of the basic needs for your home. Not only will it allow you to keep the home friendly and fresh, but also alert you to any possible problems that may be starting to show.

Checklist

Starting a general house cleaning list for yourself allows you to set a schedule for individual items or groups of items. You can also set up a weekly and monthly list so that you don’t feel overwhelmed at the start of the week.
Weekly ideas vacuuming, dusting, laundry, putting things back into proper places.
Monthly ideas cleaning house windows, cleaning cobwebs from corners, cleaning drapes or curtains, washing sheets and towels,

Maintenance List

This house cleaning list is aimed more towards prevention and proper operation of items in your home. Many things on this list, if maintained on a regular schedule will not need repairs or replacement for longer periods of time. Such items would include:

Cleaning lint traps
Dusting and spot checking the furnace and water heater
Cleaning behind major appliances and checking for any wear or damage.
Cleaning out cobwebs from the attic or basement while also checking pipes and ductwork for damage.

Supplies List

While you are keeping and following a house cleaning list, you will probably notice when you start to get low on cleaning supplies. Some items can wait until the container is near empty while with others it makes more sense to have more than one container around at a time.

Things to get before you run out dish and laundry soap, bleach, toilet bowl cleaner, drain clog remover, garbage bags and paper towels.
Things to get as you run out general cleaners, window cleaner, cleanser, degreaser, oven cleaner, floor wax, fabric stain remover and furniture polish.

Using these three house cleaning lists as a basis for a routine schedule will not only help keep cleaning from becoming overwhelming but also allow you to catch any possible problems which may arise and are caught during routine home cleaning and maintenance. In this way a house cleaning list will allow you to stay fully organized and on top of things at your home before any one area gets out of control. Using this method will also keep eventual costs down on home repairs or replacements.
