House Cleaning With Domestic Animals
Posted on 26. Oct, 2009 by Mark Coleman.
For those of us with pets, having domestic animals means cleaning house on a near daily basis. This is especially true for pets that are allowed to roam the house, even for a short while. House cleaning with domestic animals requires not only picking up their toys and hair, but also maintaining their living spaces, eliminating feces and what odors come along with it. Below are the three most common groups which fall into this category.
Dogs
Dogs in general have been around mankind for at least a thousand years. In return for our providing their comfort and food, they give us loyalty, protection and many years of friendship. Cleaning house with a domestic dog requires knowing the dog and their needs; and being able to respond to them. Here are a few simple tips about house cleaning with domestic dogs.
Most dogs can be easily potty trained for either paper or outside.
Dogs do not lose much hair, but they do shed winter and summer coats.
Dogs can attract fleas and this must be controlled constantly.
Many dog breeds tend to slobber and drool on things.
Dogs can get into lower cabinets and doors which can cause a mess.
Dogs track in mud, dirt and debris from outside.
Cats
Cats are a more self reliant domestic pet. House cleaning with a cat can be easier than a dog, but can have very similar cleaning problems.
Cats insist their litter boxes be maintained, or they will find another place to go.
Cats shed hair more than dogs or any other domestic animal.
Fleas are as much a feline problem as they are for other pets.
Cats tend to like high places and will knock things out of their way to get something or someplace.
Cats tend to be underfoot more often than other pets.
Caged Animals
Caged animals can be the most contained domestic animal with house cleaning. Domestic pets such as rabbits, ferrets, and guinea pigs top the list. While it is possible to let these pets loose in the house, they do have minor differences with house cleaning problems.
Pets such as these most likely will empty their bladder where they are at the moment.
These type of pets love to nibble and chew on anything they are near.
These pets are also prone to fleas.
These pets need more cleaning when it comes to odor elimination.
With many domestic animals, house cleaning is a necessity. For people who are pet owners, the rate of house cleaning depends on how many pets there are. Usually the more pets in the house, cleaning after domestic animals becomes a daily job.

Cleaning Out To Move Out
Posted on 19. Oct, 2009 by Mark Coleman.
Most people today move from one place to another occurs at least three times. With each time there not only the jobs of packing and moving out, but cleaning as well. Everyone knows the amazement of finding lost forgotten items during the move and cleaning out of the residence..
What Not To Forget
While most people will admit to forgetting something when moving, there are always three things that seem to top the list.
The amount of trash this figure always seems underestimated.
Cleaning supplies paper towels and garbage bags are the first to run out.
Packing boxes no one ever has enough of the right size boxes to move what they had.
With these three things in mind, one simple rule applies when cleaning out during a move, always count on extra needs of at least double what you thought.
The Large Appliances
Large appliances like the refridgerater and stove are usually an afterthought when cleaning out to move. You open up the door and want to toss out anything that is there. The task of cleaning up the spills and stains which have occurred during use is not a top priority for most people when moving; and has more often been ignored as a domestic house cleaning chore. So here are some simple and quick tips to make cleaning easier.
Remove the racks, spray with suitable cleaner and place aside next to the appliance, wipe down.
Use a hot wet soapy sponge to quickly remove most dirt and grime.
Leave the door open so that no mold or mildew build up inside.
Unplug the appliance.
Cleaning the refridgerator and stove should take no more than about an hour’s time.
The Bathroom
When you move, cleaning out the bathroom always results in a look through the medicine cabinet. What do you take and what do you throw out?
Anything with an expiration date either past or near expiring should be tossed
Soap can be thrown out if it is opened
Seal shampoo bottles tightly for moving. If you can’t, toss it.
Any shower sponges or toilet brushes can be replaced.
Any cleaners or cleansers can probably be thrown away if they have been opened.
Keepers And Leavers
When cleaning out for moving you always find yourself asking if you should keep something or not. Here is a quick help list.
When was the item last used? If you can’t remember, you probably don’t need it.
How often is the item used? Such things as appliances used twice, or movies watched maybe three times a year.
Is the item worn or damaged? Broken pieces and damaged wire are reasons to discard it.
Is the item now out of date? Old appliances and electronics can usually be replaced for cheaper than the old one was priced new.
How many of each item do you really need? This is especially good for coffee cups and dishes.
Cleaning during a move out of the old place can be a headache to most people. No one likes it; but it is a necessary task. Three simple rules can apply to any move making things flow much easier.
Whatever supplies you think you need, double the number
If you don’t need it, leave it or sell it.
Make an effort to leave the place as you saw it when you first got there.

Five Most Common Residential Cleaning Service Users
Posted on 12. Oct, 2009 by Mark Coleman.
There are five distinct groups of people who will more than others call upon the services of a residential cleaning company. Most people requiring a residential cleaning service do so out of time constraints more than any other reason.
Single Parents
Single parents are one of the most frequent users of residential cleaning services. Why?
Lack of time time is one item single working parents do not have enough of. Cleaning up after children or when not working is often time consuming and draining.
Child care caring for children is a full time responsibility. Keeping a spotless and organized home is often placed on a list which never is finished.
No one else to count on most single parents do not have someone else which they can rely upon for daily or weekly upkeep.
With this in mind, a residential cleaning service ranks up on the list just after the babysitter and landlord. While it does cost a few extra dollars each month, having a residential cleaning service allows single parents to focus on more important items.
People Moving Out
When anyone decides to move to a new place, the two tasks most dreaded are packing and cleaning. Residential service companies in both industries can provide assistance in this area. One issue faced by many people who move is cleaning out the apartment before they leave. Most leases state that the units be left in similar condition to when they were first rented. Here is a small list of reasons so many units are left in disarray:
The rental unit is no longer their concern
There is not enough time due to eviction or immediate displacement
There is a dispute between tenant and landlord
Death of the tenant
Illegal activities causing vacancy.
People Expecting Company
At one time when relatives or friends from another area called to say they were coming by for a visit, you would spend nearly a day cleaning and organizing the house. In today’s world, there is no time for this. This is the reason which many people use when they call in a residential cleaning service. When there is simply no time available in the schedule, these services can handle the task in one simple efficient effort taking only a couple of hours.
The Older Person
As we get older, our bodies tend to wear down. Doing the tasks that we once always did daily may become harder to accomplish or just take too much time. This problem creates a need for a residential cleaning service to come to the home and help. Many elderly people do not have reliable assistance in this area to maintain proper care of their homes but can still manage effective daily living. Such tasks would include:
Washing the windows
Vacuuming carpets
Cleaning bathroom and kitchen areas
Cleaning harder to reach corners and rooms
Most often these five segments of the population will be the most frequent users of a residential cleaning service. It is not because they are lazy, or lack commitment; most times it is simply a lack of available time or energy which prohibits a level of cleaning which residential cleaning services can provide.

A Basic Cleaning List For Your House
Posted on 20. Sep, 2009 by Mark Coleman.
House cleaning usually is actually preventative maintenance when scheduled properly and the schedule followed. Setting up a house cleaning list gives you an idea of the basic needs for your home. Not only will it allow you to keep the home friendly and fresh, but also alert you to any possible problems that may be starting to show.
Checklist
Starting a general house cleaning list for yourself allows you to set a schedule for individual items or groups of items. You can also set up a weekly and monthly list so that you don’t feel overwhelmed at the start of the week.
Weekly ideas vacuuming, dusting, laundry, putting things back into proper places.
Monthly ideas cleaning house windows, cleaning cobwebs from corners, cleaning drapes or curtains, washing sheets and towels,
Maintenance List
This house cleaning list is aimed more towards prevention and proper operation of items in your home. Many things on this list, if maintained on a regular schedule will not need repairs or replacement for longer periods of time. Such items would include:
Cleaning lint traps
Dusting and spot checking the furnace and water heater
Cleaning behind major appliances and checking for any wear or damage.
Cleaning out cobwebs from the attic or basement while also checking pipes and ductwork for damage.
Supplies List
While you are keeping and following a house cleaning list, you will probably notice when you start to get low on cleaning supplies. Some items can wait until the container is near empty while with others it makes more sense to have more than one container around at a time.
Things to get before you run out dish and laundry soap, bleach, toilet bowl cleaner, drain clog remover, garbage bags and paper towels.
Things to get as you run out general cleaners, window cleaner, cleanser, degreaser, oven cleaner, floor wax, fabric stain remover and furniture polish.
Using these three house cleaning lists as a basis for a routine schedule will not only help keep cleaning from becoming overwhelming but also allow you to catch any possible problems which may arise and are caught during routine home cleaning and maintenance. In this way a house cleaning list will allow you to stay fully organized and on top of things at your home before any one area gets out of control. Using this method will also keep eventual costs down on home repairs or replacements.

Now that you are finally ready to tackle that design project in your home that you have been putting off for so long, you may feel like you need a little help in getting started. And unless you have gone to school for this sort of work or you have a lot of experience at it, you may find that you could really use the help of an interior designer software. The thing is though, that these sorts of programs do not come around at cheap prices. Even if you find a used program for sale, the total price for the software certainly is not going to be considered cheap.
This is why it may be a good idea to first see if you can find yourself a free interior design software program. You may know someone who is currently in school for interior design and they could let you borrow it for a short period of time. If you luck out, you may even find someone willing to give you free interior design software simply because they will not be making use of it anymore. Either way, to get your hands on your very own free interior design software is something very exciting since you would be saving so much money.
Making It Work For You
Once you finally get yourself that free interior design software program it is time to get to work and make the most out of the program. By using your free interior design software, you will be able to quickly transform any room in your house. When you are completely finished with your projects you may want to consider holding onto your free interior design software in case you need to use it later in the future. If you feel that you really will not need to, you can always give the free interior design software to someone who you know will make good use out of it. The free interior design software is something that you could easily give up or lend to a friend since you never had to dish out the big bucks for it to begin with.

Three Ways To Set House Cleaning Rates
Posted on 15. Sep, 2009 by Mark Coleman.
When starting a house cleaning service, you must choose a house cleaning rate. This rate will be your fee for services provided. Like many other services, such as moving companies or painters, house cleaning has various ways of charging for service. Three of the most common ways to set house cleaning rates are hourly, by the room, or a flat fee. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. Below is a brief description and use of each rate.
Hourly
This rate for house cleaning is mostly useful for the following situations:
The amount of time needed to clean is uncertain
Inexperience with estimating
Multiple jobs covered by the same client
Jobs which will take long periods or chunks of time.
Some disadvantages would be:
Customers may feel that you would watch the clock and try to tack on extra time.
A job may require extra time one week and you would have to charge over your initial amount.
You can not cover the cost of employees as readily as other methods.
By The Room
This is the rate for house cleaning is the most useful when you know how long it takes to clean a room in general. This rate would be useful for the following situations:
General package deals such as vacuuming, dusting and window cleaning only.
Each room needs a different level of cleaning
There are a lot of rooms
Discount rates are easier to calculate for this type of rate.
Some disadvantages are:
You would need to charge an additional 50% for initial cleaning since it would take longer.
You would need to add on for certain services such as stove and refridgerator cleaning.
In general you could use this method to set a basic rate which would include any employees working in other areas of the house at the same time.
Flat Fee
This rate for house cleaning is used most commonly by companies offering the following:
Whole house specials
A certain number of rooms and a set schedule to clean them.
Discount rates for customers who give many referrals.
Disadvantages to flat fees would include:
Unknown situations and problems which could take away income.
Different houses each take different amounts of cleaning
Customers may haggle the price.
As you can see each house cleaning rate has a reason. Depending on your level of confidence and experience, you can choose which fee is right for you. Do not forget to base your fees high enough for when you add on help or other expenses so that you still have a profit. What also helps is to have a house cleaning list which you can show to customers to explain what you do and why.
